Poke N Roll.

I love sushi and when the poke craze started happening all over LA, I had to ask...what is poke? Pronounced "po-kay", it is a Hawaiian raw seafood salad served as an appetizer. Poke N Roll took poke to a whole new level by fusing it with Japanese sushi to create...sushi bowls! I had to try this so I paid a visit to Poke N Roll this week, and let me just say, it's a delicious gem and since it's located in Glendale, I think I'll be a frequent patron.

The menu offers sushi bowls, which includes white or brown rice with your choice of 2 fish, crab, 1 choice of sauce like ponzu, spicy mayo, and eel sauce, and 3 toppings like tempura flakes, avocado, cucumbers, and smelt eggs. Extras can always be added for an additional cost, but the amount of food that comes in the bowl is a lot and enough to keep you full. They also offer sushi salads where you can replace the rice with lettuce and they can always make your selections into a roll if you like tradition.

I watched the chef cut up a giant tuna and place it in my bowl...it doesn't get fresher than that!

626 Night Market.

626 Night Market started out in Downtown LA as a small food fair/festival with a bunch of local Asian food stands and attractions. Because of its success, they began holding the event at the Santa Anita Racetrack. They held it 3 times this summer, once a month, and judging by the event I went to, it was a huge success.

They even had some booths with things for sale like jewelry and phone cases. One of the coolest things I saw there was a hookah booth, where you would pay $10 to be able to smoke in that tent for as long as you wanted. But let's be honest, I came here for the food...There were so many different food booths to choose from, I literally made my boyfriend walk around the entire fair with me to make sure I was making the best choice on what to eat! The food ranged from sushi and poke bowls to lobster balls and Korean barbeque. Everything was so amazing, but these were my favorites!

Halloween 2013.

I hope you guys all had a great Halloween! This year my boyfriend and I went as a sushi chef and sushi. I'm ALL about creative, original costumes rather than generic, store bought costumes. I made my ginger and wasabi headpiece out of felt and and for the sushi piece, I sewed an orange pillow case on a small rectangular pillow and drew some white lines on it with paint to resemble salmon. Seto's wearing a chef coat and a Japanese headband! Added chopsticks for effect ;)
